Used book buys of the week

I say this every time, but it's worth saying again: I love shopping for books at Goodwill. The prices are so great, I can get a bagful of books for what I'd pay for one in a traditional bookstore. And I feel like I'm doing something for the environment, which is always good. Here's what I picked up today:

The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway

Villette by Charlotte Bronte

The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger

A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess

a compilation of mysteries by Agatha Christie, includes The Murder of Roger Ackroyd

Fifty Acres and a Poodle: A Story of Love, Livestock, and Finding Myself on a Farm by Jeanne Marie Laskas

and my pick for best title this year:

Bitter is the New Black: Confessions of a Condescending, Egomanical, Self-Centered Smart-Ass, or Why You Should Never Carry a Prada Bag to the Unemployment Office by Jen Lancaster

What new titles did you acquire recently?

Me too! I regularly haunt my local Goodwill store, and can't drive by the others without stopping. Great place to find books in good condition at good prices.

The only place I like better is the neighboring town's library bookstore. They have all donated books (not ex-library), usually in very good condition, and hardbacks are all $2, paperbacks $1. But I don't get over there very often.

By the way, we are in The Complete Booker together. So today is my day to check out the blogs of all my fellow participants. What an interesting and creative bunch of fellow readers! Keep up the good work!

Catcher in the Rye is one of my all-time favs! As is Agatha Christie. Looks like you did well!

Hey Tammy!! I absolutely LOVED "Bitter is the New Black"! I had to take a break from life and read the other two books immediately after finishing, and I'm happy to report Jen Lancaster is releasing her 4th book in 2009 (May, if I recall correctly)!

Did you get these at one of the Goodwills we haunted? I still have the fur coat, you know!!

Lisa
